Eternal Sunlight (Poem)

The only light I’ve ever known was my own,

Or the light from my brothers and sisters far below.

My light  is dimming and everything feels quite grim.

So I ascend,

For I know I'm nearing my end.

From the blackest abyss,

To the ultramarine,

And every hue in between.

I just want to be known,

To be seen as me before I go,

Because no one saw me down below.

The waters lighten as the rays slice the darkness,

And I see everything in a razor sharpness.

Up, and up, and up I go,

The journey is perilous and slow.

My minute body flows with the currents,

Where I meet the water and air convergent.

Finally, I make it to the surface of the sea,

To see a light that didn’t come from me.

Its so beautiful, serene, and bright.

I won't go frightened into that good night.

On my last day,

I will float and soak in the eternal sunlight.
